Get Ready for a 'Shopathon'!
Here are some useful tips for a stress-free shopping experience during the eight-week “shopathon”.
  • Dress comfortably and wear footwear with good support or cushiony soles. Wear two-piece clothing like a pair of tights and a fitting top which are more convenient for slipping on clothes in front of a mirror if fitting room queues are too long.
  • Browse through the entire store or section before heading for the fitting room to avoid having to re-queue especially on weekends.
  • Carry a big bag, preferably a backpack, to keep both hands free for rummaging through racks and piles of goods. Bring an extra bag to stow your purchases and help save the trees.
  • Shop for the lightest items first so you don’t have to lug around heavy items which can slow you down and wear you out.
  • Start early to beat the weekend crowd. Alternatively, shop during the lunch hour on weekdays. Or better yet, take a day off to shop so as not to jostle with the working crowd.
  • Some special deals and exciting promotions are offered during the weekend late night shopping when major stores and malls open till late so time your shopping to take advantage of these offers.
  • Take public transport or pre-book your taxi if you’re shopping in town to avoid long queues.
  • Be sure to drink lots of fluids to prevent dehydration in Singapore’s humid weather and stop for frequent breaks.
  • Bring along your credit cards to enjoy card-specific promotions and use MasterCard – the Official Card of the Great Singapore Sale – whenever possible to enjoy attractive rewards and exclusive privileges.
  • Before hitting the shops, check the newspapers or trawl the Internet to find out which places are offering promotions or the best deals and plan your shopping route accordingly.
  • Keep your receipts as proof of purchase and also for participating in the lucky draws.
  • Always check your items before paying as all sale items are usually non-refundable or exchangeable.

Happy Shopping!
